Newbiggin Bowls Club are off to the Finals!
For the first time in their 85-year history, Newbiggin Bowls Club have qualified to compete in the National Bowls Championship held in Leamington Spa from 23rd August.
Geoff Thompson, Secretary of the Club, applied to the Town Council Grants Committee for help with funding the competition costs that will see 4 of their Members representing the Club and the town at a national level.
The Grants Committee unanimously agreed a £300 donation and met with the Club on Monday 20th August to present them with a cheque and wish them good luck.
Newbiggin Bowls Club meet on Monday for In-house Club matches and on Tuesdays and Wednesday’s for League matches.
Whilst they have 51 Members at present they encourage anyone interested in joining the club to call in; an ideal opportunity to do so would be at their weekly coffee mornings which commence in Mid-September and are held on Wednesday’s at the Bowls Club, Milburn Park, Newbiggin by the Sea.
The Club is affiliated with Bowls Northumberland where full contact details can be found on their website (http://www.bowlsnorthumberland.com/) for any queries.
Newbiggin Bowls Club Chairman Alan Stewart commented ‘It’s the first time the club has been represented in the National Finals, it’s a great achievement to look forward to and if we’re successful we get the opportunity to represent England!’
All at Newbiggin by the Sea Town Council wish them the best of luck!
