Restoration of the Colliery War Memorial
Restoration works has now commenced as planned to the Colliery War Memorial to preserve and enhance this important piece of Newbiggin history for the appreciation of future generations.
The work is being undertaken by Bart Endean Memorials of Blyth and includes the re-pointing, grafting of piece of stone to broken seat and cleansing as using materials and methods as agreed with the Northumberland Conservation Officer and approved Listed Building Consent.
It is anticipated that the restoration work will be complete by the end of this week but it is somewhat weather dependant.
Work is also planned to improve the planting scheme at the Colliery Pit Wheel ahead of a rededication service to mark the Centenary of the Colliery War Memorial in July.
