Service of Rededication on the Centenary of Newbiggin by the Sea Colliery War Memorial
Following the restoration of the Colliery War Memorial and to mark the Centenary of the memorial, a service of rededication will be held on Sunday 11th July at 12 noon.
The service has been organised between the Town Council, the Veterans Association and Father Anthony.
An wonderful exhibition has been prepared by Newbiggin by the Sea Genealogy Group; the boards may be brought to the service dependant on the weather. The exhibition will be on display for the month of July at the Family History Centre on Front Street.
The Jayess Brass Band will be playing at the service.
The Community Crafters poppy display created by the Newbiggin Community and descendants of those remembered will be on display at the memorial and it will look beautiful.
The community are very welcome to watch the service on site, maintaining social distancing, and a recording of the service will be made so it can be shared online for those that cannot be present and kept as a record for posterity.
We are hopeful that despite the limitations we must make due to the Covid pandemic, it will be a fitting tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and also to the community.
The planting at the memorial will be done immediately prior to the service.
