Newbiggin Young Athletes
Following receipt of grant applications, the Town Council supported young athletes Georgia and Kaitlyn this summer and their parents have recently provided some feedback on how they got on.
‘Both girls have had an amazing athletics season but this is due to their hard work and determination, training three times per week and supplementing at home with other activities to improve and maintain their fitness. The support from the Town Council was most appreciated and has assisted the girls in competing at the level and standard they have achieved this year, by covering entry fees, travel and accommodation for several national competitions this year.’
Some of the highlights in the hammer throw included:
Northern Championships (Hull)
Kaitlyn – Gold
Georgia – Silver
North East Championships (Middlesborough)
Kaitlyn – Gold
Georgia – Silver
Scottish National Championships (Aberdeen)
Kaitlyn – Gold
Georgia – Silver
The girls also attended the English Championships in Manchester and to even qualify to enter is a massive achievement. Now at the end of the Season Kaitlyn has finished the season with a ranking of 4th and Georgia 9th in the UK.
In addition to the hammer results listed above Georgia also is the North East Discus Champion and ranked 1st in north east and 36th in the UK.
Kaitlyn has also competed in the Northeast Pentathlon coming 5th and ranking 10th in the North East.
The girls certainly have a bright future and should be very proud of themselves for their achievements.
