Hate Crime at Memorial Park
Since Russia declared war, Newbiggin Town Council has flown the Ukrainian flag in Memorial Park in solidarity and support with Ukraine.On 14th May 2023 at approx 5pm, the Ukraine flag was forcibly removed from the pole at Memorial Park and placed in a nearby bin. The suspect has been caught on CCTV and can be seen leaving a public house on Front Street near Mauds Terrace, wearing white shorts, Red zipped sports jacket and white trainers. Suspect then made their way down Front Street and jumped the fence at Memorial Park. Where the Ukrainian flag was removed and placed in the bin.
This is a HATE crime and will not be tolerated. CCTV is now with Northumbria Police.
A replacement flag has been ordered and we will continue to fly this flag in solidarity with the war torn country on behalf of the residents of Newbiggin By The Sea.
