A Partial Seasonal Dog Ban in effect from May 1st – September 30th
A partial seasonal dog ban on Newbiggin Bay came back into effect on May 1.
In 2011 Northumberland County Council first put in place an exclusion order on dogs accessing parts of beaches at Newbiggin (and Blyth) over the summer months. Dogs are also not allowed in any enclosed children’s play areas all year round.
The measures mean dogs are forbidden on the section of beach at Newbiggin from the breakwater beside Church Point to the access from the promenade beside Sidney Crescent, from May 1 to September 30 each year.
Most people honour this annual agreement but anyone breaching the ban will be issued with an on the spot fixed penalty notice of £100. If unpaid then the County Council will normally prosecute and the court can issue a fine of up to £1000.00.

The extent of the Newbiggin Beach Ban can be viewed on map.
Newbiggin by the Sea has many other beautiful and interesting walks to explore with your dog while the ban is in force.
Dogs are still allowed on the south end of the bay and the full extent of the promenade. There are also approximately 14 Public Rights of Way and we are part of the England Coastal Path.
