Celebrating 70 Years of Friendship and Unity
🌍✨ Celebrating 70 Years of Friendship and Unity! 🎉🤝
In 2015 a new partnership agreement between the town councils of Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea and the City of Remscheid Council was duly signed by the respective mayors of each area reaffirming these well-established links.
A public exhibition celebrating the links, of the past 70 years, will take place on Friday 25 October, from 1.00pm till 3.00pm, at the Newbiggin Maritime Centre (NE64 6DB).
A number of civic dignitaries, from the City of Remscheid, including Sven Wolf (the Regional MP) and Sven Wiertz (Stadt Director of City of Remscheid) will be visiting the area to support the event. Mr Ian Lavery MP, for Ashington and Blyth, will welcome the guests to the area as part of the visit.
The public exhibition will include photographs, memorabilia and a performance by the Ashington Male Voice Choir who have preciously visited Remscheid. The visit will also recognise the 40th Anniversary of support from the Remscheid community to the Wansbeck Miners Support Group during the Miners’ Strike of 1984/85. The support from Remscheid was much appreciated by families in the Wansbeck area at the time and the Choir will perform Requiem, from the musical Fell ‘Em Doon, to mark the occasion.
The exhibition has been organised by Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea Town Council’s, supported by the Ashington & Newbiggin by the Sea Town Twinning Association and everyone is welcome to attend. The Town Twinning Association has been developed by local people to encourage participation in town twinning and provide practical support in developing and organising exchange visits between the areas.
If you have previously attended a town twinning exchange or would like to find out more about town twinning please come along to the event, at the Maritime Centre, on the 25 October.
