Remembrance Sunday in Newbiggin by the Sea

Remembrance Sunday in Newbiggin by the Sea 🌺
Councillor Fiona Rowley, the Mayor of Newbiggin by the Sea, ‘ I would to thank the people of Newbiggin for their support and the continued respect shown to the fallen. We must never forget those who gave their lives for us. We have freedom that many others are denied. In these uncertain times worldwide we have a strong and caring community, I am proud to be part of’.
Cllr Rowley acknowledged the efforts of the Town Council staff and Newbiggin Veterans for organising the event, as well as Reverend O’Grady for leading the service. Special thanks were given to the Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band for their musical contributions.
The solemn occasion began with a short service at the Newbiggin Colliery Memorial, where wreaths were laid by Councillor Fiona Rowley, County Councillors Liz Simpson, the Newbiggin Veterans Association, and Newbiggin Coastguard. A special Thank you goes out to Audrey Murphy for the wonderful touching tribute of poppies on the Colliery War Memorial.
Following this, attendees proceeded to Front Street to assemble for the parade to Newbiggin Memorial Park.
The poignant sounds of the Last Post and Reveille were performed by Sara James, the Principal Cornet Player of the Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band.

In a heart warming display of community spirit, Mya Wright (above middle) a young resident of Newbiggin by the Sea, has raised an impressive £225.00 for the Royal British Legion. Mya achieved this remarkable feat by crocheting poppies in her spare time, turning a hobby into a meaningful contribution.  The funds raised by Mya will aid the Royal British Legion in supporting Veterans and their families. Her efforts remind us of the power of individual contributions and the impact they can have in supporting those who have served our nation. Thank you, Mya, for your creativity and compassion! Your dedication has made a significant difference, and your actions have touched the hearts of many.
The event was a touching reminder of the importance of unity and remembrance, honouring those who have served and sacrificed. A powerful reminder of the strength and compassion of our community. A community united. Together we remember
