A Christmas Message

A Christmas Message from Fiona Rowley, Mayor of Newbiggin by the Sea: –
I would like to express my gratitude for the past year.
Christmas and New Year are upon us once again—a perfect opportunity to be thankful for everything we have , and to plan for the year to come. It’s also a time to remember those who are no longer with us.
I am thoroughly enjoying the role of Mayor and hope to continue to serve the community until the completion of my term. I would like to thank all the Councillors, Leanne and Stacey in the Town Council office for all the support throughout the year. A special thanks to Dan for doing a great job!
This year has been filled with memorable events I will mention just a few. It is wonderful to see the growing number of residents attending the Remembrance Service. To join users at the hive for Pamper sessions with Melanie. Being able to work closely with the RNLI, and various other community groups. Newbiggin Garden and Community Awards also showcased the talent and dedication within our community. All very positive occasions.
As in any year there are disappointments. One of these being the burning of children’s equipment at Central Play area and other random acts of anti-social behaviour. If there is any positive to take from this, it has been from the overwhelming responses from the community, showing your care and resolve to not let these things stop us going forward .
Once a community loses its ability to care, it is very hard to evoke the “community spirit “ again. The responses to these events has shown that we are a strong resilient community which really does care.
I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2025!
Warm regards, Fiona Rowley, Mayor of Newbiggin by the Sea
