Tree Planting in our Community

Exciting News for Newbiggin-by-the-Sea!
We’re thrilled to announce that, in partnership with Northumberland County Council and funded by the Local Authority Treescape Fund, we’ll be planting new trees in our community!
🌿 7 standard trees (including Silver Birch, Bird Cherry, and Rowan) will be planted near the Dedication Garden behind the Health Centre.
🌿 A further 5 trees and hedges will be planted at the Newbiggin Sports and Community Hub.
This partnership followed a report by Friends of the Earth, which highlighted that tree coverage in England is just 12.8%, with only 10% being woodland. Sadly, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea has the lowest tree coverage in Northumberland at 5.6%, placing us in the bottom third nationally for rural communities.
As your Town Council, we’re committed to improving this for the benefit of nature, climate, and health in our community. These new trees and hedges will not only enhance our local environment but also contribute to a greener, healthier future for everyone.🌱
