Interested in being an Independent Member for the Northumbria Police and Crime Panel?

Northumbria Police and Crime Panel is seeking to recruit two Independent Members, who live or work in the Northumbria Police force area, to help scrutinise and support the work of  the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner.

The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner is to hold the Chief Constable to account for the delivery of an efficient and effective police service in Northumbria.

The Northumbria Police and Crime Panel is part of the arrangements for governance and accountability of policing in Northumbria.

The Panel scrutinises the performance of the Police and Crime Commissioner and promotes openness in the delivery of policing
services throughout Northumbria.

The Panel meets in public approximately six times a year at Gateshead Civic Centre.

The Panel’s membership currently consists of twelve Councillors and two Independent Members.
The appointments will be for a term of 4 years. There is no salary or allowance for the role but travel costs and expenses will be reimbursed.

Applications are invited from individuals with appropriate skills, knowledge and experience, such as representing the interests of groups and organisations or an understanding of community safety, policing and criminal justice issues.
