More information for the Lighting Of the Beacon Event Thursday 2nd June

The Public toilets will also be open late on Thursday night for the event and open longer for the event on Friday.

To avoid inconsiderate parking on residential streets the overflow car park (highlighted in Red) should be used and can be accessed by the gate opposite Manor Drive. Signage is in place to direct cars to the overflow car park which is only a short walk from the town centre and beach. The Lighting Of The Beacon Life & Light Event starts at 8pm at Newbiggin Piazza (Band Stand). At approximately 9:20pm, a parade of Light will walk down to Church Point on the Promenade (highlighted in Light Blue).

There will be no access to Church Point from 7:45pm on wards until the parade’s entrance. This is to ensure all health & safety is adhered too.

We have volunteers, Newbiggin Veterans Association, our Enhanced Operatives and Councillors helping on the Thursday night and can easily be spotted wearing Hi Vis vests/coats.

A photographer will be out and about about taking photos to use in our Memories Book – Past, Present and Future. As well as this, we will be recording the event and this will enable us to produce a video for all to see when finished.

We have also been asked to provide footage of our fabulous event on the night to News channels.

Please remember to wear your crowns/hats, come in fancy dress if the mood takes you or in red, white and blue. If you have made a lantern in the Newbiggin Arts Centre – bring it along for the parade. If you do not have a lantern, bring a torch or battery operated tea light. NO NAKED FLAMES.
