07/07/2023 – Central Park Play Area – Invitation to Tender

The Town Council is seeking tenders from qualified and reputable play companies to design, supply and install replacement play equipment at Central Park Play Area in Newbiggin by the Sea, Northumberland what3words /// The simplest way to talk about location.

The play area was transferred to the Town Council in 2009 and we are unsure of the date of installation. The multi play climbing unit which features a slide has deteriorated due to age and we have had to remove it for safety reasons. The roundabout next to this unit has seized up and is beyond repair. The existing wet pour surface is crumbling and had numerous patch repairs.

Replacement play equipment is required for this area suitable for toddler to primary age with the theme of railway/trains as this is near the site of the former Newbiggin rail-line and station and many locals have nostalgic memories of this.

The roundabout should be removed and replaced with imaginative play panels that are inclusive with no fall risk e.g. a station ticket shop.

The remainder of the area should feature play equipment appropriate to the specified age range, to include a train theme.  Please note that cradle swings and spin opportunities already exist within the remaining play area.

The design should include elements of inclusive play.

The council has anticipated a budget of approx. £40,000 plus. VAT for the project. Tenders may be submitted under this sum. Completion date for the project is 31^st December 2023
