"Sing Joyfully"; music for a summer's evening

Categories

You are warmly invited to come to Sage Gateshead Chamber Choir’s Summer Concert, which takes place at St Bartholomew’s Church in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea on Saturday July 9th at 7pm.

The choir, a 40-strong choir which has been singing together since 2005, has performed throughout the North East and has travelled to sing across the UK and in many of Europe’s major cities.

The choir will perform accapella choral music from the 15th to the 21st centuries, including a stirring version of a spiritual arranged for choirs, “The Battle of Jericho”, and a suite of choral interludes for an opera composed by Benjamin Britten for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Other delights for the audience will be pieces by Gjeilo, Purcell, and Chilcott, as well as Byrd’s “Sing Joyfully”.  Denise Stout, the choir’s music director, who previously directed both the larger choral society and smaller chamber choir in Orkney, said: “We hope to raise everyone’s spirits with joyful singing of a varied programme of familiar and lesser-known choral gems.”

Entry is free, but donations are welcome, to be shared between the RNLI and the Church Central Heating Repair Fund.
